ONVIF Device Server – Streamlined ONVIF Profile S Integration for Linux-Based Video Systems

RidgeRun’s ONVIF Device Server allows you to transform any Linux-based board into a basic ONVIF Profile S-style IP video device with essential media and device service support. Whether you're building an IP camera, smart encoder, or edge AI system, this modular solution gets your product streaming with minimal effort.

Out-of-the-box, the server implements a core set of ONVIF Device and Media Service operations—including device info retrieval, user management, network interface handling, and RTSP stream configuration—designed to provide working interoperability quickly. Full ONVIF compliance is not included by default, but RidgeRun offers expert customization and integration services to help you meet Profile S or other ONVIF compliance requirements.

The media functionality is demonstrated using GStreamer and GStreamer Daemon, but the architecture is framework-agnostic—you're free to integrate with any multimedia pipeline or RTSP implementation of your choice. The system is optimized for embedded platforms like NVIDIA Jetson, x86, and i.MX6/i.MX8.

Key Features:

    • Basic ONVIF device and media service support
      • Includes RTSP streaming, device discovery, and configuration operations.
    • Modular architecture
      • Customize or extend using your own implementations (e.g., iNetwork, iSystem, iMediaClient).
    • Framework-independent media support
      • Example implementation uses GStreamer, but any media backend can be integrated.
    • User and network management
      •  Includes user creation, editing, and network interface control.
    • Autodiscovery + autosave
      • Automatically reloads previous configurations on restart.
    • Custom compliance support
      • RidgeRun can help you extend functionality to achieve full ONVIF Profile S compliance.

    Example Use Case:

A camera vendor developing a new AI-powered IP camera on Jetson Xavier NX needs to integrate with third-party VMS software. Instead of building ONVIF support from scratch, the team uses RidgeRun’s ONVIF Device Server as starting point to provide out-of-the-box Profile S compatibility. This accelerates time-to-market, reduces engineering costs, and ensures interoperability with leading security platforms.

    What Makes This Unique:

RidgeRun offers a solution that can turn any Linux device into an ONVIF Profile S compliant device.
Its core is based on GStreamer (GStreamer Daemon and its modularity), allowing the user to easily add new features.
It is intended to provide ONVIF support, easily reducing time to market and helping our customers avoid investing time dealing with ONVIF specification implementation.

    Ideal For:

    • IP security cameras and smart video encoders

    • Edge AI surveillance systems and robotics

    • Embedded Linux devices needing ONVIF/VMS compatibility

    • Projects with limited time or resources to handle ONVIF internals

    What You Get:

    • ONVIF Device Server software package

    • Integration with GStreamer pipelines

    • Initial media + device service support set. Ask what functions are supported (support@ridgerun.com)

    • Setup guide and technical documentation

    • Optional 11-hour Embedded Software Support for onboarding, customization, or performance tuning
